Cougars, mountain lions, and pumas belong to the family of felidae. Cougars are large cats with brown-tan fur, medium sized ears, and powerful bodies. They live in woodlands of the United States and Canada. The large paws of the cougar allow it to walk over snow without sinking, and maintain a firm stance on uneven ground. They also have excellent hearing. Cougars live alone unless a cougar is mating or a female is caring for her young.Cougars live in a “lair” or a “den.”
